Buying a used Vauxhall Movano Van

The Vauxhall Movano is one of the iconic vans we see throughout towns and cities across the UK.  If you’re on the lookout for an affordable used option, read our buying guide on what Movano models are available, which you should choose and why as well as a few key things to look out for.

What models are available?

Sitting alongside the Ford Transit and Mercedes Sprinter, the Movano is a large van that comes in front or rear-wheel drive with a decent choice of body sizes and weights (Panel Van, Crew Van, Chassis Cab, Crew Cab, & Platform Cab). In 2021, Vauxhall also launched an electric model, for the eco-conscious market. Weighing between 2.8 and 3.5 tonnes, they’re used by tradespeople everywhere to transport goods and equipment. Functioning mainly as a commercial vehicle means that the trim levels are relatively limited but newer models give drivers two main options to choose from:

  • Vauxhall Movano Edition: The entry-level van has a dual passenger seat, six-way adjustable driver’s seat, electric windows, multiple storage areas, DAB radio, full-metal bulkhead and a single sliding door.
  • Vauxhall Movano Dynamic: This trim has added Bluetooth connectivity, rear pedestrian alert and rear parking sensors.
  • Packs: Drivers can add individual extras like air conditioning, full climate control or cruise control. A Comfort Pack includes climate control, a sat-nav and enhanced audio while the Construction Pack (for rear-wheel drive) has an electric tow bar, locking differential at the rear and an air-suspended driver seat.

Most Vauxhall Movano vans on the used market will be diesel vehicle and most will have a 2.3L engine with varying horsepower, although the van is now available in full electric. Here’s all the possible engine types since its introduction in 1998:

1998-2000

  • 2.5L D (80 Hp)
  • 2.8L DTi (115 Hp)

2003-2009

  • 1.9L CDTi (82 Hp)
  • 2.5L D CDTi (100 Hp)
  • 2.5L D CDTi (115 Hp)
  • 3.0L D CDTi (136 Hp)

2010-present

  • 2.3 CDTi (100 Hp)
  • 2.3 CDTi (125 Hp)
  • 2.3 CDTi (146 Hp)
  • 2.3 CDTi (146 Hp)

Movano-E

The 100% electric Movano-E completes Vauxhall’s line-up of electric light commercial vehicles (LCVs). As the largest vans in Vauxhall’s range, they have a 2,110kg maximum payload and 17m3 load capacity. The van meets The Worldwide harmonized Light vehicles Test standard, has 0% Benefit in Kind and gives drivers up to 139 miles of range. Standard features include a one-sided sliding door, front fog lights, rear park assist and pedestrian detection. Drivers can upgrade to the All-New Movano Edition with DAB radio, Bluetooth, Vauxhall Connect and a foldable, rotating passenger tray.

Which Vauxhall Movano Van should you choose?

If reducing emissions and protecting the planet are at the top of your list, opt for the Movano-E. With an impressive payload for an electric vehicle and matching equipment to the diesel counterpart, it’s a great choice that’ll set your business up for the future and save you money on tax. If you’re after a diesel model, with a good choice of sizes, weights, trims and pack options, it’s entirely up to drivers to choose the van that suits their work life.

What should you look out for in a used Vauxhall Movano Van?

Our best advice is to buy any used van based on condition, not the year. The focus should be on assessing the wear, tear and whether it’s been used for lighter work or has been used to its maximum capacity on a regular basis. There have been no recalls of the Movano in the last five years and just seven in the last 10 years.

  • Sideboard/tail board: Between 2012-2014, 825 cars were affected by an issue where the sideboard/tail board hinges failed, causing it to detach while in motion. Check the hinge function and if they need replacing, request it’s done before you buy.
  • Bodywork: Look for any scratches and dents as they can be a sign of poor driving which over time could be detrimental to the handling.
