Our official JEEP COMPASS used vehicles
Having made a name in producing reliable and exciting off-roaders, the Compass was one of Jeep’s first models that brought this hardcore character onto the road. With the recognisable look and the extra comfort, the Jeep Compass is an SUV that’s capable on any surface. Find out all about it and how you can buy a used one with SPOTiCAR.
What models are available?
Released to the UK market in 2018, the Jeep Compass was designed to combine the practicality and capability of the manufacturer’s off-roaders with the comfort and technologies of an SUV. Plus, with a range of petrol, diesel and hybrid engine options and both automatic and manual transmissions available, Jeep Compass models offer a great choice for those looking for a family vehicle:
- 1.6L MultiJet II 4x2 Manual: one of the two standard diesel options, this engine offers a fuel economy of 64.2mpg, 120bhp and a top speed of 115mph.
- 2.0L MultiJet II 4x4 Manual: this other standard diesel engine provides more power with 140bhp and a top speed of 118mph.
- 2.0L MultiJet II 4x4 Auto: the automatic version of the Jeep diesel engine, it’s available with 140bhp and 170bhp.
- 1.4L MultiAir II 4x2 Manual: the standard petrol engine for this range, it can reach up to 45.6mpg and a top speed of 119mph with 140bhp.
- 1.4L MultiAir II 4x4 Auto: the automatic version of the petrol engine option, this also comes with 170bhp and a top speed of 124mph.
- 1.3L GSE T4 4x2 Manual: a smaller but highly capable petrol engine, it offers 130bhp and a top speed of 119mph.
- 1.5L T4 e-Hybrid 4x2 DCT: this petrol hybrid offers decent fuel efficiency at 47.9mpg and 130bhp.
- 1.3L Turbo 4xe PHEV 4x4 AT6: a plug-in hybrid engine, this offers plenty of power and fuel efficiency.
Although the Jeep Compass is designed to be mostly driven on tarmac, it still comes with a four-wheel-drive option and Selec-Terrain technology which makes it very capable in a range of driving conditions. Plus, the models don’t hold back on any of the technologies and comforts you’d expect in the interior, with four trim options available:
- Sport: the entry-level model, this option still has plenty of interior and exterior features such as 16-inch alloy wheels, heated wing mirrors, a 3.5-inch digital screen, air-con and a DAB radio with a USB port.
- Longitude: a more premium option, this model has top spec features such as a reverse camera, folding mirrors, keyless entry and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
- Limited: top of the standard range, the limited has 18-inch alloys, a fully digital dashboard, automatic wipers and a park assist system.
- Trailhawk: the off-road spec in this range, it has wheels, bumpers and cladding that’s made to keep drivers safe and stable on rough terrain.
Which Jeep Compass should you choose?
The range of engine and trim options available means there’s a Jeep Compass for every type of driver. If you’re looking for a reliable family car that can keep you running comfortably and cost-efficiently, then the 1.4L petrol manual with either the Longitude or Limited trims will help to keep you safe while giving you all the space and technology you need for journeys with the kids.
If you’re looking for a Jeep with its famous off-roading capabilities at its heart, then the 2.0L diesel engine with the automatic low-range gearbox option and Trailhawk trim will offer plenty of fun on any terrain. Alternatively, for a long-term, low-carbon option, the plug-in hybrid offers reliability, power and performance with all the benefits of the standard SUV model.
What should you look out for in a used Jeep Compass?
Having only been manufactured since 2018, Jeep Compass models are relatively new and reliable. Yet, alongside the standard checks of the MOT and service history, there are some areas you need to look at before buying a used Jeep Compass:
- Problems with the electrical systems, including the digital instrument cluster in the top-level trims.
- Engine failures caused by problems with the voltage regulator.
- Limpness or jerking with the six and nine-speed transmissions.
- Manufacturer recalls for the brakes, powertrain module, passenger airbags, instrument panel clusters and front lower control arms.
