Used FIAT Panda

Appearing on the market in the early 1980s, the Fiat Panda was designed as a quirky city car that could get drivers around town easily. Modern models have become increasingly more practical over the years, while still keeping their reliable, easy-to-run nature. So if you’re looking for a little car that’s thoroughly capable, then find out all about used Fiat Pandas in this SPOTiCAR guide.

What models are available?

The cute looks and practicality of the Fiat Panda have charmed many drivers looking for a small and affordable car to get them around towns and cities. With five doors, a relatively large boot and a comfortable, easy-clean interior, it’s ideal for any small family or couple that drives around an urban environment every day.

Although each trim option is practical and comfortable, there are different models depending on the level of technology and capability drivers need:

  • Pop: this standard trim level is basic and practical, though it does include a radio and CD player.

  • Easy: air con, remote central locking and roof rails are the main upgrades of this trim level.

  • Lounge: this model offers significantly more in terms of safety features and technologies including Bluetooth connectivity, parking sensors, automatic braking and a sat nav.

  • 4x4: equipped with all-wheel drive, this unique model has a raised suspension and larger size that makes it capable on any terrain.

  • Cross Waze: named after its main additional feature, the navigation app Waze, which is built into the car.

  • City Cross: equipped with extra exterior trims such as alloys and side mouldings.

  • Cross: another all-wheel drive version of the city car, this upgraded model has extra features that are handy for heading off-road, such as tow hooks and underbody protection.

Alongside these trim levels are three Fiat Panda engine options available on the used market:

  • 1.2L petrol: this four-cylinder option is the standard across the range, offering 52.3mpg and 69bhp.

  • 0.9L TwinAir petrol: designed to be more fuel and carbon efficient, this engine is available in 4x4 and Cross models, providing 49.6mpg and 90bhp.

  • 1.3L MultiJet diesel: available in older range models, this engine offers up to 65mpg and around 94bhp.

In terms of transmission, the whole range is available with a manual gearbox, with some automatics (which Fiat call Duologic) also available.

Which used Fiat Panda should you choose?

The type of model you choose depends on the level of capability you’re looking for. The standard Fiat Panda range is perfect for any driver looking for a practical and capable city car with plenty of boot space and five-door access. Combined with an easy-to-clean interior and fuel-efficient engine, this makes the Fiat Panda an ideal car for small families living in a city or town.

Alternatively, if you want an option that’s as capable outside of the city as it is in it, then you should consider the 4x4 or Cross models. Plus, with a range of trim levels available, you’ll be sure to find a car with the technology features you need.

What should you look out for in a used Fiat Panda?

The Panda was noted as the car that turned Fiat’s reputation around when it came to reliability. This means most used models will be fairly reliable and won’t throw up many problems in their servicing or maintenance history. However, checking the vehicle’s history for any of the below problems will help you avoid costly repair bills later down the line:

  • Damage to the exterior and interior trims, such as loose panels or paint chips.

  • Electrical issues.

  • Wheel alignment.

  • Head gasket problems.

  • Accident damage.

  • Water damage to the engine.
