Buying a Used DS

A premium, luxury brand, DS cars have made their mark on the industry. With a hugely versatile range of models and a bold, exciting approach, DS has quickly become known for its innovative and upmarket vehicles. So whether you fancy a fun supermini or a spacious SUV, you can find the right DS car for your needs with SPOTiCAR.

Why buy a used DS?

Created in 2009 by Citroën, DS Automobiles’ first car was inspired by the original Citroën DS produced in 1955. A premium, luxury range of French cars, DS vehicles were originally sold under the Citroën name before it became a unique brand in 2014.

Born under the ownership of Groupe PSA (made up of Peugeot and Citroen), it has continued to focus on producing unique and luxurious cars. In a game-changing announcement, DS also pledged to launch only electric and hybrid vehicles from 2025. Yet many of their petrol and diesel models are now available on the used market.

Which used DS model should you buy?

From crossover SUVs to hatchbacks, the DS range has something to meet every driver’s needs. Here are the models that are available on the SPOTICAR network.

Citroën DS 3

The model that started it all, the DS 3 (originally sold as the Citroën DS 3) is a supermini hatchback that changed the game when it was released in 2009. Available as a convertible and in a range of engine and transmission options, the flagship model was named 2010 Top Gear Car of the Year.

As fun to drive as it was to look at, the three-door car is the smallest in the DS range and provides a model option for every type of driver:

  • Cabrio: available with a range of petrol and diesel engines, this convertible model option has a central, roll-back sunroof.

  • Performance: with a 1.6L four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, this hatchback and convertible model has widened tracks to make it more aerodynamic and sporty.

  • Chic and Connected Chic: a comfortable option with more electronic features and exterior trim options such as alloy wheels, cruise control and a Sat Nav.

  • BlueHDi: a model designed for greater practicality with a 1.6L diesel engine that can achieve 78.5mpg on average.

With beautiful, sophisticated interior and exterior styling, the DS 9 is comfortable to drive, even on long journeys and has plenty of space for passengers to enjoy the ride. Plus, with a sport driving mode, regenerative braking and a four-wheel-drive option, it provides plenty of performance on the road.

What should you look out for in a used DS?

Although DS cars have only been produced since 2009, it’s important to run a few checks on any used vehicle before you buy:

  • Look for recalls: a few DS models were recalled for fixes, so checking whether the vehicle you’re looking at was subject to these will help you see if the problem was dealt with or not.

  • Test drive: although this may seem obvious, it’s important that you listen out for any unusual noises in the engine that could indicate a cambelt, turbocharger, cylinder or pump problem and give the gearbox a good test run to ensure its running smoothly.

  • Inspect the alloys and bodywork: oxidation and vibration can cause rust to develop on the exterior, particularly on the wheels and on the wing mirrors, so it’s important to check these before you buy.

  • Try out the interior: try the seat tilt lever and check the aircon to ensure there are no faults.

With a huge range of models and options available, there’s a DS car that’s suitable for every driver. Plus, as an official DS Automobile retailer, you can trust SPOTiCAR to find a high-quality vehicle that will perfectly match your needs.
