used mini

The Mini is one of the most iconic cars sold in the UK with an excellent track record for producing high quality vehicles with lots of personality. Minis are known for their rigorous safety standards, and have won many awards and accolades over the years. There are several distinct models of Mini, and this article will explain some of the differences between them to help you make the right choice.

Popular Mini models

Owned by BMW, there are several different models of Mini to choose from and each has its own unique benefits. Here at SPOTiCAR we carry a wide range of quality assured Minis for you to choose from, and we’ll be taking a closer look at some of the most popular models and what they can offer you.

Mini Cooper 3 Door Hatch

Perhaps the most iconic of the Minis, the 3 Door Hatch is spacious but is still more compact than a VW Golf and is perfectly suited to urban driving. The base model has a 1.5 litre turbocharged engine which makes it feel nippy and capable whether you’re taking on the city streets or the open road. If you want a little more oomph then you might like to opt for the Cooper S version which packs a punchy and agile 192bhp TwinPower Turbo engine into the familiar 3 Door Mini format.

Mini Cooper 5 Door Hatch

This 5 Door offering is very similar to the 3 Door Hatch model, but there are some key differences that might sway your decision. Obviously the first major difference is that it has 5 doors rather than 3 and is a little larger than the 3 Door, offering you a little more leg room in the back and a slightly larger boot space. In terms of similarities, it has the same iconic good looks as the 3 Door and handles in a very similar way and it provides similar levels of power on the road. This is the ideal model for those who love the iconic original looks but need a little more space for luggage and passengers.

Mini Cooper Convertible

The Mini Cooper Convertible is one of the most stylish models released by this marque. Similar in design to the other offerings by Mini, it features the iconic looks we all know and love in a convertible package. There are a few different convertibles to choose from, including the Cooper model that packs a nifty 136bhp with a 3-cylinder petrol engine, and the Cooper S which delivers an impressive 192bhp. The most powerful in the convertible line is the JCW model that delivers 231bhp. One thing to keep in mind with the Mini Cooper Convertible is that the folding roof does mean you’ll have to sacrifice on boot space, so you’ll need to decide whether this is something you can live with.

Mini Cooper Countryman

A more rugged offering, the Countryman is perfect for families who like an adventure. It is the largest Mini in the range and provides more space for passengers and luggage than you’ll find with any other Mini. It also has more headroom up top, making it one of the most comfortable Minis, especially for longer trips. This model is the perfect compromise for drivers who are torn between choosing an iconic Mini or opting for a small SUV - the Countryman does it all. Despite its larger size it is still wonderfully compact enough for urban driving and parking, and the steering is light and very manageable.
