Popular Citroën cars

This French car manufacturer is known for making quality cars that perform well over time. The brand is a champion of innovation and has produced some truly exciting cars across the categories.

Citroën C1 - this ultra compact city car has a punchy 1,000 cc engine which makes it perfect for urban use. It is one of the most popular compact 3 door hatchbacks, though it also comes as a 5 door variant which is very popular. The trim levels of older models are listed as Vibe, Rhythm and Code offering various levels of interior and exterior finish. Newer models have VT and VTR trims, with the premium levels Platinum and Edition being the most recently added to the line.

Citroën C3 - one of the most popular used Citroën cars for sale, the C3 is similar to the C1, but is larger and has a more grown up look. Available with either 1.2l or 1.6l engine sizes, you can expect solid performance from this small hatchback car. The 5 door variety is popular, but you will see the 3 door version more often in our range of Citroën approved used cars for sale.

Citroën C4 - the updated looks of the C4 make it a popular choice for people looking for Citroën second hand cars. This small family hatchback is practical and reliable, and is one of the safest on the market. It has either a 1,200 cc or 1,500 cc engine and both options are economical and cheap to run. Newer models can come with a choice of 3 petrol engines, 2 diesel engines, or a fully electric motor.

DS5 - while it’s not branded as a Citroën, it is made by Citroën and has a premium finish. The car is a cross between a hatchback and MPV, and has a stylish interior. The DS5 can come as an electric hybrid, and has low running costs and fantastic mpg. There are also great diesel and petrol options to choose from. The most popular are manual, but there are also 6 speed automatic versions.

Citroën history

Founded in France in the early 1900s, Citroën originally built armaments but founder Andre Citroën knew that his company would need to innovate and plan for the future beyond WWI. The decision to switch production to vehicle manufacturing was taken in 1916, and the flagship car model, the Type A, was announced in 1919. Citroen was almost incorporated by General Motors, but the sale fell through and Citroën remained independent until 1935. Since then, the company has produced more than 300 models which demonstrate why Citroën has a reputation for innovation and vehicle quality such as the luxury B14 and the B15 which was the first commercially available French car with a closed cab. Today’s Citroën used cars for sale are excellent value for money and are highly reliable. They are one of the most popular car brands in the UK with around 3,000 units sold as new each year.
