Buying a used Ford Focus

The Ford Focus is a reliable, popular choice of car. It has been around since the late nineties when it was introduced as Ford’s small family car. The Ford Focus is larger than the Ford Fiesta, with more space and practical features for families. Many critics consider the Ford Focus one of the best all-around family cars. In this guide, we take a look at the design, practicality and features of the Ford Focus to help you make a better choice when selecting your next used car.

Ford Focus Practicality

The Ford Focus is designed for families, making practicality vital for this model. The boot space is average for a family car, but the back seats fold down, which frees up more space when you don't have passengers. However, there is a ridge between the boot and the back seats when folded flat, making it slightly more awkward to slide items to the front of the extended boot space. The back seats are spacious for adults, and you would have no issues carrying three children in the back of the Ford Focus, even on longer journeys. There are charging points in the back to make long trips easier with multiple passengers. The driver's seat has various adjustments making the Ford Focus suitable for very tall and shorter drivers. The front also has a range of different pockets and areas to store items, making it practical for a family with lots of bits and bobs to carry around.

Ford Focus design

There are a few design differences between the Ford Focus models. The front grill differs depending on the version you select, so keep an eye out for your preferred grill when browsing the used car market. The overall exterior design is well thought out. The dashboard is also well designed and looks great, the buttons are easy to use, and the majority of the materials used on the dashboard are high-quality. Overall, the car has a sporty design, which is even more exaggerated in the ST line.

Ford Focus features

The Ford Focus has numerous features which set it apart from other family cars. There is an integrated touch screen in the front that has a satellite navigation system to help you locate your destination. The infotainment system also includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, allowing you to connect your phone to the vehicle to play music, make and receive calls and use your phone navigation. The car also includes cruise control and climate control for a more comfortable driving experience. Keyless start and entry speed up getting in and starting the car; this is helpful if you often lose your keys in your pocket or bag.

Some great safety features include the collision-avoidance assistant, which will take over the steering wheel to avoid accidents. A lane departure warning system will steer you back into the right lane if you deviate over to the left or right. The parking assist is also beneficial for tight spaces. The car will do the steering for you; you can select between a bay park and a parallel park. Ford has also included pop-out door protectors in some versions of the Ford Focus. These stop your car doors from being damaged when opened onto other objects or cars in tight spaces; they are great for families with young children.
